How to Be More Productive When Working at Home

This one is for all of my girl bosses who work from home or students who may want to do all their work at home vs the library. Having gotten in the routine of working from home I have learned a few tricks in order to keep my productivity high and not get easily distracted by what is in my home. Here are my top 5 tips on how to be more productive when working from home…

  1. Switch up where you are working from in your home even if it is only for a few minutes.  We all work at a desk all day (at home, work or school) so be sure to walk around and sit or lay in a different way. You may be surprised how you can get your creative juices going again just by switching up your environment for a bit.

When I’m just reading or catching up on a webinar I like to occasionally sit on my rug from Soft Surroundings or on my bed. I do this for a bit as I don’t want my neck to get caught in that awkward looking down positon.

2. Always have a clean space. No matter where you are working from be sure to always have distractions put away and a clean environment. This will help your mind from wandering and thinking if you need to clean up that clothes you have piled on the side of your room. My rug and comforter from Soft Surroundings always tends to bring me peace in my room when I have it tidy and want to work in my bedroom for a bit.

3. Reward yourself with a snack or a beverage. Your brain needs fuel to keep processing all your amazing thoughts and even more to put them into action. Remember to not forget to have a treat so you can keep working because their is nothing worse than working on an over worked mind on an empty stomach.

4. Write down everything as it comes to you. I have noticed that I get ideas during the most random part of the day and in particular right before I go to bed. So I tend to keep a notebook with me at all times and right next to my bed so I never lose a single thought. I also have a specfic notebook only for my random thoughts so I don’t lose them later on and can’t find them in a notebook that may be meant for something else.

5. Wear comfy clothes or wear whatever you need to feel productive. I find that I am more productive when I have regular clothes on, for some reason I can’t work in sweats or yoga pants and I wish I could but for some reason I have found that it makes me less productive. Their is something about me having the routine of getting ready for my day even though i my not be going anywhere that really helps me feel confident and ready to work!
