Celebrating Dia de los Muertos

dia-de-los-muertos

If you’ve been following my me for a bot now you know that Dia de los Muertos is a tradition very close to my heart. It is a tradition that my family has practiced for generations and one of the most beautiful ways that I grew up learning about those who came before me that were so important in the lives of my parents. Now that I have gotten older, I myself have begun to create my own alter (ofrenda) with people who were very important in my life but unfortunately are no longer with us for the past several years. It has become something I look forward to every year and a way for me to get to chat with Chris about some of the people that I wish he could have had the chance to meet. It is a nice feeling knowing that although he did not get to meet them in person he still knows plenty about them as if he would have. This is also the first year we have added someone who was very important in Chris’s life to the alter and it makes celebrating this holiday together even more special.

This year in preparation for Dia de los Muertos I have teamed up with Walmart to create my alter. Walmart has made shopping easy, accessible and affordable for everyone, offering a wide variety of themed items for Dia de los Muertos like decorations for your alter to silverware and table décor to have a meal with the family in honor of your loved one. They also offer a variety of ways you can now receive your order with 2 Day Shipping, Next Day Delivery and of course safe in-store shopping.

Dia de los Muertos is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd and is a Mexican holiday to celebrate the lives of those that we love that no longer are here with us. This tradition goes back thousands of years originating from the Aztec, Toltec and Nahua people and one that is celebrated to this day throughout all of Mexico and others like myself who are of Mexican decent or others who have also fallen in love with this tradition and picked it up themselves to celebrate the lives of their loved ones.

If you’re looking to celebrate Dia de los Muertos this year be sure to check out Walmart for their assortment of affordable products. You can find the items I used linked below and many more!

A special thank you to Walmart for sponsoring this post. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

As always, thank you for reading. Como siempre, gracias por leer.
